The Amazing ‘MANA’ Race- Manaiakalani Film Festival 2025

Talofa lava everyone!

Have you ever wondered what it truly means to hold fast to your pride, spirit, and strength? Potu 6 at Roscommon School are excited to share our short film, The Amazing MANA Race, where five teams race through challenges that test more than just speed — they explore strength, kindness, culture, and identity.

Our film is inspired by this year’s school theme, TOITŪ TE MANA, which comes from the proverb Toitū te Kupu, Toitū te Mana, Toitū te Whenua. We wanted to show our understanding of this theme by celebrating how our words, our heritage, and our actions carry mana in everyday life.

Watch as our teams discover that true mana isn’t something you win — it’s something you live, share, and uphold every day.

STRONG TOGETHER, MANA FOREVER…CHHHEEEEEHHHHHOOOOOO!!!!🇼🇸

My Bilingual Super Power – Manaiakalani Film Festival 2022

Talofa lava ma Malo le  Soifua.

Potu 4 have been very fortunate to be a part of the Manaiakalani Film Festival this year. It is our first time ever taking part in the Film Festival so we were quite nervous especially after watching all the awesome short films from previous years. Last term Potu 4 had been working very hard to try and put together our short film. Being in a Samoan Bilingual Unit, we often forget that we have a Superpower which is our first language or our heritage language. We have noticed that some students are ashamed to use the Samoan language in class because they are afraid that they will be made fun of. However, our purpose for this film is to encourage and empower those students who speak more than one language that being bilingual or multilingual is a Superpower and to use it. Speaking and using your mother tongue will definitely help you grow with your learning.

We hope you enjoy our short film. CHHHEEEEEHHHHHOOOOOO!!!!🇼🇸

Uike Katoanga’i ‘o lea faka-Tonga

Malo e lelei,

This week we celebrated Uike Katoanga’i ‘o lea faka-Tonga. We have really enjoyed learning about the Tongan culture but most importantly, adding to our lea faka-Tonga kato. Our class created some Tonga Ngatu using tools on Google Draw. We also created posters of classroom items in the lea-faka Tonga. We have tried our best to sustain the Tongan language in our classroom this week.

Malo aupito!

Te Epetoma o te reo Maori Kuki Airani

Kia orana,
This week we celebrated Te Opetoma o te reo Maori Kuki Airani (Cook Island Language Week). We enjoyed embracing the Cook Island culture and we have to say, we really love singing the Cook Island National Anthem❤️ We had our online school assembly on Friday and one of our favourite teachers(Mr Cuthers) was able to join us from Rarotonga. That was really cool to see him!

We are learning to promote ourselves positively online by creating a blog profile.

Talofa lava,

Today we were learning how to promote ourselves positively online through creating a blog profile. This was fun because we were able to remind ourselves what sort of information we are allowed to post online about ourselves and then go over some of the skills we have been learning within cybersmart. We are slowly becoming confident with Google Drawing. Feel free to check out our Blog Profiles and leave a comment😊.
